How Did God Create Man And Woman?
If a person just looks around the world he lives in, he cannot help but notice that the human race has but two genders, male and female, man and woman. How did they come about? God created them. Do you know the details of how God created man and woman?
According to Genesis 1 after God created all the other creatures he had made, he created the human race with two genders, male and female. Genesis 2:7 tells you, “Then the Lord God formed the man of the dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. In this way the man became a living being.” This verse tells you that God created the human race in the person of the first man, whom he created from the dust of the ground. Having formed his lifeless body, God then breathed into the man’s nostrils and gave him the precious gift of life. The man then became a living being.
Then God stated there was something not good about his creation at that point in time. It was not yet complete. In Genesis 2:18 you read, “Then the Lord God said, ‘The man’s being alone is not good. I will make for him a helper corresponding to him.’ ” When God said his creation was not good at that point in time, he already had in mind the solution to the problem. He would make a helper corresponding to the man, a helper who would provide the man with much needed companionship.
So God brought the wild animals and birds of the sky to the man to name. And through the process of naming them, he learned that among all those creatures there was not a helper corresponding to himself. Genesis 2:21, 22 then tells you, “The Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at the place. And the Lord God built a woman with the rib that he had taken from the man, and he brought her to the man.” From the rib of the man the Lord God had taken, he made a helper for the man, a woman. Did she correspond to the man? Indeed, she did! The man said: “This one this time is bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one will be named woman, because from man this one was taken.” And when God brought the woman to the man, God established the marriage relationship of one man and one woman. And God said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will cleave to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” And just as the man gave names to the other creatures, so he gave his helper the name “woman” because she was taken out of the man.
